Observing the lowland gorillas in their natural habitat is one of the highlights of taking a safari in Africa. Unlike mountain gorillas, the trips to lowland gorillas are still new to most travelers. The western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) is one of two subspecies of the western gorilla (Gorilla gorilla). These gorillas live in the montane, primary, and secondary forests and lowland swamps in central Africa.
